Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation is a popular procedure that can enhance a woman's appearance by enhancing the size of small breasts, correcting unevenly sized breasts and improving overall body contour. As a renowned Delaware breast augmentation surgeon, Dr. Marc Scheiner has helped many women achieve their ideal silhouette through this advanced surgical treatment. If you are unhappy with the size of your breasts and have been considering breast implants surgery, read through the information below and contact Dr. Scheiner at 410-620-9722 to schedule a complimentary consultation.

Breast Augmentation Surgery

For many women, the size and shape of their breasts can have a significant influence on how they feel about their overall appearance. When women are unhappy with small breasts, or concerned about breast asymmetry, it can impact their quality of life and self-confidence. Breast augmentation is a surgical solution to these issues. With more than 300,000 procedures performed in the United States each year, it is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgeries. This procedure uses silicone or saline implants to add volume to the breasts, helping women achieve a more defined silhouette. In addition to enhancing a woman's appearance, the procedure allows women more clothing options and can help increase their confidence.

Your Breast Augmentation Consultation

Because each woman has unique needs and aesthetic goals, no two breast augmentation procedures are alike. During a comprehensive consultation, Dr. Scheiner takes the time to understand each patient's motivations for treatment, their health history and their desired outcome so that he can recommend the treatment that is best for them. He will also review all aspects of the procedure and address any questions or concerns so that patients can make an informed decision.Breast augmentation can be performed on its own, or can be performed in conjunction with breast lift surgery.

During the breast augmentation consultation, there are several decisions to be made, most importantly the size and type of breast implant to be used. Dr. Scheiner offers FDA-approved silicone and saline implants at his practice, both of which have distinct advantages and disadvantages. The type of implant used will depend on patient preferences and health history, as well as Dr. Scheiner's recommendations. Dr. Scheiner also helps patients decide on implant size. With years of experience in breast surgery, Dr. Scheiner has a keen aesthetic eye and can help patients decide on an implant size that is complimentary and proportionate.

The Surgical Procedure

Breast augmentation surgery is performed on an outpatient basis at our fully accredited surgical suite, The Upper Bay Surgical Center. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia which is administered by a board certified anesthesiologist. Dr. Scheiner will make an incision either around the nipple or under the breast. The incision location will be decided prior to the day of surgery. Breast implants are then placed either above or below the pectoral muscle, depending on the type of implant being used and the patient's preference. While silicone implants are at their full size before they are placed in the body, saline implants are filled to their final size post-placement. After inserting the breast implants and making any necessary adjustments to surrounding tissues, Dr. Scheiner closes the incisions with sutures and the procedure is completed.

Breast Augmentation Risks

Dr. Scheiner does everything in his power to minimize the risk of surgical complications, including working only with board certified anesthesiologists and registered nurses, as well as using only FDA-approved surgical tools and techniques. However, all surgery does pose some risk which patients should be aware of prior to surgery day. Some of the risks of breast augmentation include infection, rippling of the implant and capsular contracture. To learn more about these risks, visit our breast augmentation risks page.

Recovering from Surgery

Patients who undergo breast augmentation will experience minor discomfort in the days after the procedure. Dr. Scheiner and his staff will provide thorough post-operative instructions to ensure a safe and quick recovery period. Strenuous activities, including exercise, should be avoided for several weeks after surgery. Most patients return to work within one week.
