Delaware Breast Lift Surgeon
Dr. Marc Scheiner
Over time, a woman's breasts may begin to sag due to a number of factors, including aging, weight fluctuations and breast-feeding. For many women, this change in their physique can lead them to be unsatisfied with their appearance and cause them to yearn for the contours of their youth. Breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is a comprehensive plastic surgery procedure which lifts the breasts to a higher position on the chest, for a perkier, more attractive look. As a skilled breast surgeon, Dr. Marc Scheiner has helped many women enhance their appearance and self-confidence through this procedure. Breast Lift Candidates
Breast lift surgery is typically performed on women age 30 and over who are dissatisfied with the sagging or loss of volume in their breasts. The procedure may also be appropriate for younger patients, depending on the degree of changes in their breasts. Patients who are interested in breast lift surgery should be in good health and should not smoke, as smoking increases the risk of surgical and post-surgical complications. In addition, patients should be near their ideal weight, as weight fluctuations can have a negative impact on the long-term results of the procedure. Women should also postpone the procedure until after they have had children. During a comprehensive consultation, Dr. Scheiner will evaluate a patient's motivations for treatment, their aesthetic goals and their health history to determine if they are a good candidate for the procedure. During this time, patients are also encouraged to ask any questions they may have about the procedure, including its benefits and risks.
The Breast Lift Procedure
Breast lift surgery is performed at Dr. Scheiner's AAAHC accredited facilities on an outpatient basis. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia which is administered by a board certified anesthesiologist. Depending on the specific nature of the breast lift procedure, Dr. Scheiner will make one of three types of incisions: either around the areola, around the areola and down to the breast crease, or directly above the breast crease. Dr. Scheiner then removes excess skin and relocates the nipple to a higher position on the breast to create a natural result. Breast lift can also be performed with breast augmentation surgery. In that case, Dr. Scheiner will insert either a saline or silicone implant before closing the incisions.
Recovering from Breast Lift Surgery
Patients who undergo breast lift surgery in Delaware with Dr. Scheiner should expect to experience some swelling and discomfort in the first few days after the procedure. Dr. Scheiner will provide instructions and any necessary medications to alleviate this discomfort. The majority of swelling subsides within a few days, and all swelling is typically gone within 10 days of surgery. It is important that patients resume some light activity, such as walking, as soon as possible in order to increase blood circulation. More strenuous activities and exercises should only be resumed under the discretion of Dr. Scheiner. Most patients are able to return to work within one week of the procedure.
